Car Radio

One thing in my life that has changed for the better in recent years is that I now have complete freedom to listen to whatever I want on my car radio. I had been able to do this until my children reached adolescence, but then everything changed. As their taste in music began to crystallize, we clashed. I didn’t like their music (and I’m using the word “music“ loosely here), and they didn’t appreciate mine. Now I have to admit that when I was a teenager, my mother didn’t like my music either. Actually, she hated it. I guess what goes around does indeed come back around. Anyway, in an effort to prevent further outbreaks of hostilities, I resolved the situation by declaring a moratorium on listening to the radio whenever we were in the car together. I didn’t inflict my music on them, and they didn’t inflict their music on me. Problem solved.

Now that they’re grown I am free to pick music from an incredibly wide variety of choices. There’s everything you could possibly want – rock, pop, jazz, rap, gospel, Christian, classical, and country. There’s even talk radio, although regardless of whether or not you agree with what’s being said, it tends to get you all worked up, so I generally choose music.  Whatever the case, it’s my choice. I can sing along loudly in my off key voice to my heart’s content and there are zero complaints.
