Movie Theaters

I did something yesterday that I haven’t done in a long time. I went to the movies. If you haven’t done this for a while, you may have forgotten how much fun it is. I realize that we have all sorts of wonderful movies and programming coming straight into our living rooms through multiple streaming services, but it’s not quite the same. There’s something about getting out of the house and going to a movie theater that makes the whole experience just a little more enjoyable than sitting in front of a TV screen, at least in my opinion. I love going into a theater, grabbing a snack, and making myself comfortable in that big, dark room staring at that big, huge screen. It makes me feel like I’ve stepped right into the story.

As I entered the theater yesterday, the first thing I noticed was that there weren’t a whole lot of people there. I had my run of the place. I was free to sit wherever I wanted. I chose a seat in the back near the top, and since there was no one else around me, I decided to relax a little more than I usually would. I slouched back into my chair and propped my feet up on the back of the seat in front of me. Perfect. Then the movie started up, and I quickly realized that the outline of my feet landed right smack dab in the middle of the movie screen. That wasn’t going to work. Feeling a little foolish I straightened back up and remained in a normal seated position for the duration of the movie.

It turned out to be a pretty good film - inspirational, moving, and even a little bit educational. I felt that it was well worth the extra effort, and it left me hoping that movie theaters make a comeback. I know that you can watch some great shows from your couch. I do a lot of that myself. That’s not going to change, but I do think that going out to the movies adds the undeniable element of magic to the overall experience. You might want to try it once in a while - just for a change of pace.
