Interior Design

Ever attempt an interior decorating project without the skill, experience, or talent needed to bring such an undertaking to a successful conclusion? Didn’t turn out, did it? I know how that goes. You start out with all the confidence in the world that you can make your place look like something out of a magazine. Then, by the time you’re done, you look around and see that the end result doesn’t bear even the vaguest resemblance to the picture you had in your head. So if you’re about to try your luck at interior design, and you don’t know what you’re doing, stop and get help from someone who does. You won’t regret it.

I know whereof I speak. When I first moved into my present home, I unpacked and quickly realized that with its sparse furnishings and mismatched curtains left by the previous owner, it looked eerily similar to a college frat house. I couldn’t do much about it at the time, but I constantly fantasized about what I would do when I got the chance.

I eventually did get that chance and went to work. I painted, plastered, hung curtains, recovered chairs, and acquired a few new pieces of furniture. It’s still didn’t look that great. It was then that I realized that my home would be a work in progress for many years to come.

I wish I could tell you that everything slowly but surely fell into place, and I finally have that magazine worthy home, but it didn’t go quite that smoothly. A lot of things I did just didn’t work and had to be redone. It did, however, all come together with time, and although it may not rise to the level of a “work of art,” I am no longer embarrassed to open my front door and let people in, which is the mark I had set for myself. I think that’s probably a good one to shoot for, and as I’ve said before, if you need a professional to get you there, find one. They’re worth every penny. Spare yourself the grief. You’ll thank me.
